CONTRACTS & PROJECTS Modularwiring system

lights up learning centre ModularWiring Systems has designed, manufactured and supplied modular lighting distribution and control systems for the new Suffolk One sixth form centre in East Anglia. A £50million project, Suffolk One is a striking state of the art learning centre for 16-19 year olds in SouthWest Ipswich and South Suffolk.ModularWiring Systems was awarded the contract for the lighting distribution system at Suffolk One byM&E contractor Inviron as they had worked successfully together in previous contracts and because the tender came in at a good price. The decision to go down the pre-fabricated modular wiring route was made on the basis of speed and accuracy. Such a system reduces on-site wiring time as it is delivered to site ready made - all the installer need do is connect the system components together, this also reduces the possibility of connection errors. For more information telephone 01753 566 700, email info@modwire.com or visit www.modularwiring.com

High-class

hospitality As the football season drew to a close it was time for Old Trafford to commence its renovation projects including the hospitality areas in the West Stand and South East Quadrant. Alard Electrical Ltd, the electrical contractors for the project, recommended Gamma to fulfil the lighting requirements. The renovation of the hospitality area in the West and South East Stand Quadrants was a prestigious project and the selected LED fittings had to help create a luxurious ambience that reflected the high-end surroundings, yet didn’t detract fromthe other creative and decorative lighting features. With this inmind the TTX 700 lumen, 3000K with 60 degree beamand centre etched glass was chosen for the ambient lighting in the corridor areas. In addition to the TTX fittings, SyncroM, S1 and S2 LED lights were selected for the adjustable display lighting to highlight the various pictures which adorn the corridor walls. Each of these fittings offered 580 lumen output, 4000K and a selection of 54 degree and 24 degree beamangles with a brushed aluminiumfinish. For more information email sales@gamma-uk.com or visit www.gamma-uk.com

Passivhaus office is first of its kind Interserve, the international support services and construction group, recognises the importance of sustainability in all of its clients' projects. So, when it came to constructing its own new regional office building at Leicester, the company was well placed to select building materials and methods that would optimise the build's eco- credentials and position it at the cutting edge of commercial property design. The result is a £1.5million project, which is the first certified Passivhaus Carbon-Neutral commercial office to be built in the UK. The design principles of Passivhaus have already been broadly accepted and highly acclaimed in the UK house building industry, where they are helping developers to achieve superior energy efficiency ratings as part of the Code for Sustainable Homes. However, building to Passivhaus standards in the commercial sector is in its infancy, with Interserve at the forefront of implementing this construction method for a variety of public and private sector

projects around the UK. Located atWatermead Business Park near Leicester, the new building has been constructed by Interserve in partnership with park developer Raynsway Properties. The two- storey 6,000sqft office houses approximately 60 staff in a modern, fresh, working environment, running at a mere 10 percent of the energy usage of such a building constructed conventionally. Super insulation, triple glazing and high levels of air tightness (<0.6 air changes per hour) have all reduced the requirements for space heating and cooling, thereby providing high-level comfort with very low energy consumption. With the Leicester site demonstrating perfectly Interserve's capabilities in building to Passivhaus standards, the company is now undertaking a number of other Passivhaus projects around the country. These include a circa £10million primary school new build in Leeds, which is set to be one of the most energy-efficient schools in the world when it is completed next year.  For more information visit www.interserve.com
