INDUSTRY NEWS Harshweatherwarning

As a harsh winter is forecast for the UK, a supplier of crucial bad weather equipment and products is urging organisations to get ready for what lies ahead. “Long term weather forecasters are suggesting that the period from November to February will feature below average temperatures and inevitably snow,” explains managing directorMarcus Palmer of DMMP Ltd, which imports and distributes machinery such as salt spreaders to everyday winter items such as de-icers. Marcus has always been interested in long range weather forecasting and remembers only too well the misery of last winter’s snow. “We were inundated with organisations wanting spreaders right in the middle of the drama, but roads were closed and conditions treacherous, so we couldn’t make urgent deliveries,”Marcus says. “We are urging organisations to buy now as we are looking at a winter as hard as the last one, if not worse.” At the peak of the bad weather last year which saw much of the UK crippled by snow, the DMMP team was fielding panicked phone calls constantly, only to tell people that due to high demand and prevailing conditions orders would be delayed. Organisations need their equipment ready before, not when the snow is falling.”  For more information telephone 0845 643 9776 or visit www.dmmp.co.uk

Kingspan’s continued drive towards

sustainability Kingspan Insulated Panels is celebrating the completion of the next phase of its ongoing drive towards sustainable manufacturing with the installation of one of its latest product developments at its state of the art manufacturing facility at Holywell. 2,900sqm of Kingspan Roof PowerPanel System photovoltaic modules have been installed on the roof of one of the south facing manufacturing buildings. The building already combines the benefits of a number of Kingspan’s own products, from insulated panel systems to passive solar renewable energy generation in the shape of the EnergiPanel system, which produces solar air heating. The addition of the photovoltaic array on the Kingspan KS1000 FC box profile roof panel makes the facility a prime example of the effectiveness of the ‘insulate and generate’ principle. The 406.08kWp system, which comprises of one thousand seven hundred and twenty eight 235Wp Yingli crystalline PV modules, is expected to generate circa 350,000 kWhr per annum, making a significant contribution to powering the plant’s electricity needs. For more information telephone 01352 717 251, email info@kingspanpanels.com or visit www.kingspanpowerpanel.com
