THE ELS CLUB DUBAI The Els Club at Dubai Sports City is the first golf course in the Middle East designed by US Open and Dubai Desert Classic Cham- pion, Ernie Els. Stretching 7,538 yards with four sets of tees provid- ing golfers a selection of lengths from which to play, the links-style course is located adjacent to the luxury Victory Heights residen- tial development. A temporary structure will soon be replaced by a Mediterranean-style club- house measuring 60,000 square feet, which will boast a private lounge, state-of-the-art meet- ing and conference facilities and a choice of restaurants and bars.

Another popular option for visit- ing golfers is the nine-hole chal- lenge at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa on the outskirts of the city. A superbly designed course by Peter Harradine, the resort's holes are played out alongside a stunning marina and feature a saltwater lake, which comes into play on five of the holes, and its now famous peacocks. With the wind from the Arabian Gulf pick- ing up as the day progresses, it's a course which, when played as an 18-hole challenge, will really test your club selection.
