Salalah offers groups a taste of the historic and natural beauty of Oman. Oman Air Holidays offers three group tours worth considering: 1. The four-hour Fabled Castles of East Salalah tour starts with a visit to the fish- ing village of Taqa, an old town with an interesting castle surrounded by watch towers and Taqa stone houses. It then continues to Khor Rori creek; the site of the ruined city of Samhuram, which is also the capital of ancient Arabia's exotic frankin- cense trade; and then Mirbat, the ancient capital of Dhofar with its old houses that are famous for their wood carvings. The return journey is via Ayn Razat with its manicured gardens fed by natural underground springs. 2. The four-hour Frankincense Trail of West Salalah tour starts with a visit to the Biblical Nabi Ayoub with Prophet Job's tomb perched high up in the mountains. En-route, the journey takes in spectacular views of the plains, mountain landscape and emerald green pasture land. The blow holes of Mughsail Beach are the next stop followed by hairpin bends for 20kms into a wadi. This is the road that takes you to the Yemen border and is dotted with Frankincense trees. 3. The three-hour Serene Salalah tour takes groups to garden farms growing coconuts, banana, papaya and vegetables; old ruined houses; the Shanfari Mosque; the site of Prophet Saleh's 'Sacred Camel Footprint'; and Al Husn Souk (where the frankincense crystals of Dhofar and typical Dhofari frankincense burners are sold). There's also a trip to the city's promenade (waterfront corniche) where single storey houses are dwarfed by tall, swaying palms.
