Amongst all the countries of the Gulf, Oman is widely regarded as the most naturally beautiful, encompassing all the elements you could possibly wish for from rugged mountains and desert landscapes through to turquoise seas and rock water pools. Diversity is the word that best describes the destination and its wonders are there to be explored for visitors with the time and inclination. The capital of Muscat is well served by international airlines and the country is easily reached from other Gulf countries, often within an hour's flight time. Other cities in Oman can be reached by connecting flight or by road through an established network stretching to all major sites of interest. For groups with just a few days to spare, Muscat is an ideal base and as you'd expect from a capital city is the destination with the most developed and still rapidly expanding infrastructure. From the old, including museums, ancient forts and mosques through to new five-star hotels and the stunning and critically acclaimed Royal Opera House that opened in October, 2011. A new convention and exhibition centre is also soon to open its doors, Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) adding to the capital's large-scale meeting facilities that already include a standalone international exhibition centre. Hotels are all geared for the meetings industry and most complement their fantastic beaches or convenient city locations with impressive delegate capacities and hosting abilities for a multitude of different functions. Muscat is the perfect venue for a combined meeting and incentive as cultural and natural attractions are all accessible in minutes. Despite being a port city, the sea is remarkably pure with abundant sea life just beyond the shores, making dolphins and schools of fish a common sight, just metres out to sea. meetoman 2012 is intended as a user-friendly reference for the best that Oman has to offer meeting and event planners, rounding up the destination's meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition facilities as well as providing a review of all the major hotel and venue options.
As ever, we welcome your feedback. If you would like to share any Oman experiences or suggestions that could be incorporated into the next issue of meetoman, or meetme magazine, please email us at
