MUSCAT
The Omani capital is the main hub for international visitors to the Sultanate and is a hugely appealing destination in its own right. Muscat is the focus of massive infrastruc- ture, leisure and business development at present, including the multi-billion dollar expansion of the country's sole international airport (Muscat International), the construc- tion of new mixed-use developments such as The Wave, and the development of a new world-class exhibition and convention centre. The city is home to some of the most sophisticated and innovative hotels and resorts in the Gulf, and offers a relaxed and some would argue, more authentic Arabian alternative to the hustle and bustle of some of its regional neighbours.
What's there
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world. It covers a total area of 416,000 square metres and can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers. Tours are available most days throughout the week with the exception of Fridays.
