Jabal Al Akhdar Hotel


Jabal Al Akhdar Hotel is a luxury hotel and spa development planned for one of the most naturally beautiful inland areas of Oman - the Hajar mountain range, which with its 2,000-metre altitude, offers a pleasant year-round climate.


The hotel will feature 80 hotel suites and world class spa facilities, along with a cliff side restaurant and pool. Jabal Al Akhdar Hotel will be operated by the Singapore-based hotel chain, Alila, when it opens in 2012.


The Omagine Project


The real-estate and tourism project known as the 'Omagine Project' will be built on 245 acres of beachfront land facing the Gulf of Oman, just west of Muscat and close to Muscat International Airport.


As it stands, the plan is to create cultural, heritage, educational, entertainment and residential components encompassing many interesting event, exhibition, meeting and conference spaces.The Omagine Project' will include a "high culture" theme park containing seven pearl-shaped buildings, each approximately 60 feet in diameter, associated exhibition buildings, a boardwalk,


an open-air amphitheatre and stage; open space green areas; a canal and an enclosed harbour and marina area; associated retail shops and restaurants, entertainment venues, boat slips, and docking facilities; a five-star resort hotel, a four-star resort hotel, commercial office buildings; shop- ping and retail establishments integrated with the hotels; and approximately two thou- sand residences to be developed for sale. Three new hotels in Muscat For many years the InterContinental Hotel has played a key role in Muscat's tourism offering. Now, as the city develops and the demand for first-class facilities in the region increases, the area in which the hotel is located is undergoing a major redevelop- ment to cater to new visitors.


Covering a site of 14 hectares in Shatti Al Qurum, an up-scale residential and com- mercial area known as the diplomatic heart of Muscat, three new hotels are planned to replace the current property. This will include a 250-room W resort hotel on the beachfront and 350-room Westin hotel in addition to the Element extended-stay hotel units.


The Fort Hotel


The Fort Hotel is a new five-star develop- ment planned for the Bausher Mountains near Muscat in Oman. When finished it will be one of Oman's flagship hotels, developed to cater to discerning travellers.


It will include 120 suites, six spa suites and eight luxury villas, as well as a range of high- end restaurants and leisure and business facilities, including an outdoor amphitheatre able to seat 100 people. Its elevated location will offer spectacular views over the city of Muscat and the Arabian Sea.

Muscat International Airport is the main gateway to Oman and the base for the national carrier, Oman Air. The airport is directly connected with 56 destinations in 27 countries and is served by 28 international airlines. In 2010 Muscat International handled more than 5.7-million passengers. The new Muscat airport is currently under construction and will replace the existing one on completion in 2014. With a capacity


of 12-million passengers annually, the new terminal building will have 29 boarding air bridges, 10 bus-boarding lounges, 30 remote aircraft stands, 86 check-in counters and 20 online check-in counters, a brand-new second runway with a length of 4,000 meters (the original runway will also be extended to 4,000 meters) and a cargo terminal to handle 260,000 tons annually.


OAMC is also expanding Salalah Airport in a bid to cater to one million passengers by 2014. Located in the south of the country, Salalah is the second largest city in Oman, and its airport is the main gateway to the Dhofar region Salalah Airport handled in excess of 455,000 passengers in 2010. The new Salalah Airport will be completed by 2014 and will replace the existing airport. It will be able to handle one million passen- gers annually and the terminal will have eight boarding air bridges, 10 remote air- craft stands, 24 check-in counters and four online check-in counters, a new 4,000-metre


runway and a cargo terminal to handle 100,000 tons of freight every year. Construction is also underway at four


new green-field regional airports in Sohar, Adam, Ad Duqm and Ras Al Hadd. These four new airports will link other regions with Muscat and meet the increasing travel demand from tourism, business and local communities. These airports will be com- pleted by 2014.


Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) is responsible for managing and operating Muscat International and Salalah Airports in Oman and will also manage the new regional airports once operational.
