from the University of Wolverhampton. Mr Meynell was presented with an Honorary Degree
of Doctor of Business Administration at a graduation ceremony at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
‘The award was conferred in recognition of his entrepreneurial flair and business leadership.’
The award, presented by the University’s Business School, was conferred in recognition of his entrepreneurial flair and business leadership. Mr Meynell was born at Albrighton, near
Wolverhampton, in 1931 and worked for 40 years at family-owned manufacturer Meynell & Sons, now Meynell Valves. In his time at the firm, Mr Meynell pioneered the introduction of the ‘Safemix’ thermostatic showers, used in the QE2 liner, Buckingham Palace and many hospitals. Mr Meynell developed exports and started
companies in Japan and the USA and was responsible for worldwide sales to 53 countries. When the business was sold in 1988, Mr Meynell
undertook various roles in the voluntary sector, including Shropshire chairman of St John Ambulance, chairman of the Rural Development Commission and High Sheriff of Shropshire. He founded the County Air Ambulance Trust in 1992.
The trust raises £2 million each year in support of the three air ambulances based at Cosford, Strensham and Stafford.

Mansell wins silver for training
Staff at Stourbridge-based Mansell are celebrating after getting a top award which recognises the way the company treats and trains its people. Mansell has achieved the coveted Investors in People
Silver Status, following a searching assessment by inspectors. The award recognises Mansell’s training programmes, people development and employee recognition.
The IIP assessment panel said: “People at Mansell
feel there is a two way commitment between the organisation and its staff that serves to create a sense of value and appreciation.” Regional managing director Steve Davies said: “We see it as a major part of our business and an investment in our future. Training and development and allowing people to reach their full potential are ingrained into the Mansell culture,” he said.
Cushman & Wakefield’s Birmingham based asset management team has been shortlisted for two categories – Cassie Bailey, risk management co- ordinator, in ‘new entrant of the year’ and Mike Lewis, associate director risk management, in ‘achiever of the year’. The nominations come hard on the heels of Cushman & Wakefield’s performance in the recent prestigious RoSPA Occupational and Safety Awards 2011 Birmingham where they scooped a gold award.
Cushman & Wakefield asset management partner Philip Taylor said: “Our asset management team is widely acknowledged as one of the best performing in the industry, so it is not surprising that we are getting this kind of recognition. Fingers crossed for 20 October.”
