WHO’S MOVING UP & WHO’S MOVING ON


COPTHORNE HOTEL 1. Birmingham city centre Copthorne Hotel has made two senior appointments, including Mat Williams, who has taken over as general manager. Mat has worked for Millennium


and Copthorne Hotels since 2007. This is his second spell with the


company, the first being between 2000, when he first arrived from his native Australia, and 2004. In between he worked for Corus and Ramada.


Joining Mat in Birmingham is sales manager Sarah Jones, who has been working at the Copthorne Hotel Cardiff since February last year. Sarah started her hotel career at the age of 16, and she has worked for a number of businesses in the hotel and leisure industry, including the Vale Hotel Golf and Spa Resort, near Cardiff.


JURYS INN 2. Another city centre hotel has made two similar appointments, this time the Jurys Inn, Broad Street. The two appointments are Rachel Strange (left), who has taken over as general manager, and Suzannah Parkes (right) as sales manager. Rachel has worked at the Jurys


Inn hotels in Belfast and, latterly, in Derby. Suzannah has been promoted from sales executive and is the youngest sales manager within the group. Jurys has 32 locations, in the UK, Czech Republic and Irish Republic.


MIDLANDS TRUCK &


VAN 3. West Midlands commercial vehicle dealer Midlands Truck & Van has appointed Jon Divers as dealer principal. Mercedes specialist Midlands


Truck & Van is the former Gerard Mann dealership, which was taken over by Ballyvesey Holdings Ltd earlier this year. Midlands Truck & Van employs a


staff of around 200 who sell and support the Mercedes-Benz truck and van ranges, as well as Fuso Canter light trucks, from three dealerships in Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton. Mr Divers is no stranger to


Mercedes, having previously worked as national fleet sales manager for trucks.

BARCLAYS BUSINESS 4. Kathy Leo has been appointed area manager for Barclays Business in Birmingham and Solihull. She will head up a 14-strong


team whose role is specialising in working with small and medium sized companies. Kathy, who has 28 years business


experience, said: “Many businesses don’t know if they should be expanding, contracting, sitting tight or selling up. But one thing for certain is that SMEs are crucial to the UK economy, and at Barclays Business we are working hard to support our customer’s aspirations and business growth whatever their size.”


ROYAL BANK OF


SCOTLAND 5. Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has appointed Andrew Harrison as managing director for the Midlands and East of England


Mr Harrison will head up a team


of 150 staff operating from offices in Birmingham, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Norwich and Nottingham. He has more than 18 years of


experience at RBS, working with businesses from SMEs to large corporates, and also running specialist structured finance teams. He said: “My responsibility is to


ensure that RBS is proactively there to help companies in the Midlands and East of England reach their strategic goals. I am very conscious of our responsibility to support the regional economy and am confident that we have the resources, people and expertise to do so. “The economic environment is challenging but there are good opportunities for companies to invest and grow, for example by taking advantage of low interest rates.”


SMARTS


6. Birmingham PR firm Smarts has appointed Greg Aris as account director. He has joined the Edgbaston


firm after spending a decade working for a number of newspapers and magazines in the Midlands, Australia and Dubai. Smarts managing director


Rebecca Scully said: “Greg has a solid background in journalism and PR and he is a real asset to our rapidly-expanding team.”

WILLMOTT DIXON 7. Birmingham construction firm Willmott Dixon has appointed Janie Chesterton as its new head of education in the UK. Janie, who is based at Willmott


Dixon’s offices in Coleshill, has been brought in to develop the company’s education interests. The firm was recently chosen by Birmingham City University as preferred bidder for a £61m project at its City Centre Campus.
