I would like to add my support to the proposal detailed in the latest edition of SEnine to regenerate the toilets at Well Hall Road. This seems to me to be an excellent use of the buildings.

The buildings are attractive (though would of course benefi t from being refurbished) and are yet another historic feature of our local area that should be preserved if possible. The idea to use them as an information centre, guiding people to various amenities and attractions in the town, would seem to fi t in well with the historic character of the buildings which could become an attraction in their own right, especially if the suggestion to include a display on historic Eltham was able to be incorporated. The use of volunteers would hopefully encourage people with knowledge of the area to take part and share their stories with visitors, as well as provide opportunities to learn new skills. Hopefully their presence would also dissuade vandals etc from damaging the facilities.

As it is almost impossible to fi nd a toilet in the area without going into a shop (the ones that do provide them usually reserve them for customers only which is of little help if you didn't want to buy from them) the provision of public toilets that everyone could use would be of great benefi t to the area.

Thank you for doing your bit to help the community and for providing such an interesting and informative magazine.

I strongly support the eff ort to restore and improve the attractive and historic toilet buildings by Eltham Church. These have come to typify what remains of the lovely old place that Eltham used to be before the many architectural improvements(?) took place.

In addition the almost total absence of public lavatories in our town surely makes the case for their restoration essential.

The toilets are a lovely piece of original architecture, and my thanks to you for bringing their plight to our attention. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing in their own right, but they provide a lovely foil to the church, arresting the eye fi rstly, then, with their white gables, leading upwards to the church itself. I'm glad to hear the council would like to save them, and the suggestion sounds worthwhile and sustainable, especially with the tourism coming now to Eltham, and with a year to go to the Olympics. The Eltham Centre is sadly well hidden, but the prominence of this landmark means we simply can't let it go.

I am delighted to hear someone is interested in seeing the old tram shed revitalised. To me it seems an awful shame so much of our heritage is lost so while were about it what about the old drinking trough on the corner by the lights? On the continent it would be fi lled with fl owers and would be an added bonus to an information centre should funding be available. I am one resident all in favour.

We were happy to see your article in the SEnine magazine and fully support the project for renewing the toilets at the top of Well Hall road. We need to smarten our town up (I was sad when Clarks and then Cargo closed shops on the high street) It is a great idea to turn one of them into an Information centre for Eltham events and attractions and if the plan goes head would happily volunteer some time to assist at the centre.

It would be a travesty if the toilets in Well Hall Rd were to disappear. Eltham has many fabulous buildings from the small conveniences to our beautiful Palace. I am born and bred in Eltham and am extremely proud of it. The visitors centre is a wonderful idea as we have much to see and off er.

Fantastic idea to convert the toilets into an information centre. Perhaps English Heritage may want to help to if they push more visitors to the palace

Worried though, you may not get too many volunteers to staff them

I think they are attractive buildings though...shame to lose them.

II think the idea of an Eltham IInformation Centre is not only brilliant but timely also, with the Olympics just a year away and the increase in tourists to Eltham that this is bound to bring. Eltham Palace continues to attract more and more visitors, many of whom arrive by train and then have to walk up Well Hall Road, so this location for such a centre would be ideal. It would also be a great facility for local residents looking for something to do - we in Eltham are lucky in having an abundance of varied entertainment and cultural events but it is not always easy to fi nd out what is happening on a particular day/night, especially when you have misplaced the invaluable 'What's On' sheet from SEnine!

Whilst I support the re-use of the toilet block in Eltham for a Local info/museum type site. I think it would be a good idea to have a block set aside for local artist/ workshop or a small gallery displaying local aff ordable artwork/crafts for sale. Artist could have a system something like a collective whereby in return for work being displayed for sale they work in the shop for a period of time or donate a % of sales. Anyway great magazine keep up the good work, nice to read positive news, SEnine is always on the table in my house.
