There a rare chance to see a bald eagle, hawk, owl and falcon on the ‘bird of prey experience day’ at the Environment Curriculum Service in Bexley Road on Sunday October 2.
The day is being held to make money for the centre, whose funding is under threat. It hosts around 10,000 children each year from schools in the borough and beyond.
There will be two 25 minute fl ying displays, at 11.30am and 1.30pm
Event organiser, Claire Kirby said, “People will get a rare chance to see these magnifi cent birds in action. Our unique nine acre grounds in Eltham are a real hidden gem, this is just one of several events we have planned to give
up close while they sit on their perches, and speak to the handlers to get a better idea about how these magnifi cent birds live.
The Bird of Prey Experience is open to anyone and there is no need to book. Entrance fees are £5 for adults and £4
the local community a chance to have a look around”.
In between the fl ying displays, visitors will get a chance to look at the birds

for children and all of the proceeds will go to Widehorizons.
As well as the centre in Bexley Road, the charity also has centres in Kent, Dorset and Wales.
Mike Penny, Chief Executive of Widehorizons, which runs the centres, said, “Over half of the children in the UK have never been to the countryside and nearly two thirds say that they play indoors more than any other place.” “ We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to have outdoor learning experiences throughout their education. The ECS is an important part of how we make sure that happens and we need all the support we can to keep it open for local children, so please, show your support and come along to the Birds of Prey Experience.”
