Something For Everyone A


wide range of courses, starting this autumn, are on off er from


Greenwich Community College.


There are fi rst aid cases for people who need skills in their workplace or for parents of young children and those wishing to learn to use a defi brillator.


The courses in SE9 are at the Eltham Centre and Haimo School in Westhorne Avenue. Further courses also run at Greenwich Park and Burrage Road in Woolwich and discounts are available to Greenwich Card holders.


There are courses to cater for every interest including arts, languages, dance and lifestyle, together with those teaching practical skills such as furnishing, clothes making, bookbinding, fi rst aid, IT, digital photography, fl ower arranging, lip reading, sign language and DIY. There is also the opportunity to learn about Eltham’s history.


Many of the courses are graded according to ability, so that beginner, intermediate and advanced students can improve their skills and build on


The lifestyle classes include aromatherapy, reiki, message, yoga, meditation, stress management, Indian Head Massage, refl exology


The language classes, again graded according to ability, take in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. For literature lovers, there is a course in French poetry and fi ction.


For IT, there are courses on basic keyboarding skills, PowerPoint™, word processing and CLAIT.


The course on fl ower arranging examines all aspects of arranging fresh, silk and dried plant material for all occasions; picture framing is from


EDUCATION


In the DIY section, there are courses on tiling and carpentry. Bookbinding looks at modern and traditional hand techniques for simple notebooks to full leather binding, tooling and restoration. An eight week course on counselling will be an opportunity to explore some of the basic elements of the discipline.


Dance classes include line dancing, Latin American and Ballroom, held in the purpose-built facilities at the Eltham Centre.


The fi ve week digital camera class, which starts in April off ers a complete introduction to digital compact cameras through practical projects.


There are opportunities to explore some of the basic elements of counselling


There will be three courses through the year at Woodlands Farm including how to keep bees and chickens and in the art of willow sculpture.

People wishing to apply for the courses can do so online at www.gcc.ac.uk, by post to the relevant centre (sending payment, application form and self- addressed envelope), on recruitment day, which is Thursday September 22 at the Eltham Centre or in person on the fi rst day of the course (students should arrive 30 minutes before the course begins).
