One Year to Go Members
of local swimming
clubs and youngsters from Eltham CoE school saw history in the making when
they were invited to the Olympic Pool as part of the "One Year to Go" celebrations.

Eltham based Luke Brown, Tilly Evans, George Newman and Joseph White along with Rahul Shrestha from the Greenwich Swimming Club attended the event, with swimmers from the Eltham Stingray club.
They all saw medal hopeful Tom Daley performing the fi rst ever public dive at the Aquatic Centre, the GB synchr onised swimming junior team perform a routine, and an Olympic veterans race with Mark Foster and Duncan Goodhew.

To test the diffi culties involved in this, the students organised a sponsored walk around the park carrying a weighted container on their heads for part of the journey to simulate the real thing.
The walk was sponsored and the funds raised given to Water Aid, which sponsors the digging of wells in developing countries. The walk was held as part of Eltham Hill’s MAD (Make A Diff erence) programme before the summer holidays.
