You might think to yourself that you can’t even imagine sitting in a classroom, or fi nd- ing the time for homework; however, there are fl exibile options for how to learn. You can go to school full- or part-time, in person or, in some cases, online. Have small chil- dren at home? Maybe an online course if the way to go; you can log on after the kids are in bed and gain skills and knowledge from the convenience of your home. So much technology is available today that for many of us was hard to imagine 20 or 30 years ago. Do you learn through collaboration and being with other people? Classroom train- ing may be what you need. The fi rst step is to assess your own personal educational goals, and the second step is to determine how you learn best.
If you are currently employed, your fi rst stop should be your company’s human re- sources department. Your company may offer tuition reimbursement or assistance that can help cover a portion of the expense. Check to fi nd out if coursework needs to be job-related or not. Many employers have el- igibility requirements (time in job, attaining a certain grade point average) and benefi t limitations.
