An Irishman is taking his driving test. The instructor asks him what a yellow line means. ‘It means you can’t park there at all,’ says Paddy. ‘And what does a double yellow line mean?’ asks the instructor. Paddy replies, ‘It means you can’t park there at all… at all.’

The family business run by Catherine & Samantha Sharpe in Barns Square, Clayton, has been established for over 8 years, and was the overall winner of our Best Butty Competition. The Local Herald asked it’s readers to vote for their favourite Butty Shop in each of our five editions and we were amazed at the massive amount of votes. Katie’s Kitchen offers a wide range of hot & cold food to either eat in the café, or to take away. They also offer an outside catering service. What they also have is a huge amount of passionate customers who voted in their droves in support of their favourite Butty Shop. Well done ladies. Hyndburn Weather Report for June/July 2011 Now that summer is well under way, we are still awaiting some settled weather since Easter. June got off to a poor start with early days overcast consequently sunshine was in short supply. The first four days were dry, but temperatures were well below average, only on the 3rd did the sun have his hat on, where the mercury got a nosebleed when it climbed to a dizzy 25.7c, but it didn’t last. Soon we were back to square one, as it plummeted to around 13-14c, and stayed there until late in the month, but rose up again to produce the warmest day of the year on the 27th, making 29.6c........yippee. Rainfall was above average dropping 77mm. on us with nearly half of the days completely dry. There were no excessive winds at all in June as high pressure was mainly in charge, just on the 19th did the average wind speed attain 8mph making it a very breezy day. So we live in hopes for the rest of the summer, and look forward to some warm sunny days, when the living is easy. With July being traditionally a wetter month, we will really have to keep our
fingers crossed, as it did rain on the 15th, St
Swithens day, and as folklore states that if it does, it will rain for 40 days and
nights........the following 3 days after the 15th, 53mm fell on us making it a very wet weekend indeed. If it’s true what they say, then don’t put your brollies away just yet. So, if the jet stream which controls some aspects of our weather, doesn’t move back north soon, where it should be at this time, summer could be postponed yet again. Frank Whittaker.
