The Window cleaner knocked on the door this morning…… Shouting and waving his arms around. I thought to myself Blimey he`s lost his rag…..
The A59 Club
In June 2007 my friends and I identified the unavailability of a Social Club for Single, Separated, Divorced and Widowed people over 40 that provided a quality social life suitable to their needs and did not attract large membership fees. We started very small with a few of us meeting in a local pub every Wednesday night and produced a Programme of Events for the weekend such as theatre trips, walks, dinners,
dances, quiz nights and house parties. We refer to the people who attend as “Friends” as we believe that true friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it is lost. Our focus is on friendship and having a good social life. We are never portrayed as a dating agency although we do have ladies and gentlemen who have met at the club and are now in established relationships. It has grown mainly through “word of mouth” to the large community group that it is today with friends attending from all over Lancashire. We have just celebrated our 4th Birthday with a dinner and Cabaret at Whalley Golf Club when 70 friends of the club attended. It was a room full of laughter which emulates one of our slogans “Live one day at a time and make it a masterpiece.” The pub night every Wednesday is now held at The Bonny Inn at Salesbury with between 35 and 70 attending each week. There is such a warm and friendly environment in such a fabulous pub. At 9p.m. there are activities and snacks or supper. There are no membership fees-just £1 per week to cover costs. The programmes which outline all future events for two months cost 50p. In the next few weeks we have a ten pin bowling night, a Crown Green Bowling Scramble, six meals out at lunch time and in the evening, a Day Tripper to Althorp House (the Spencer family home), Pics and Pizza night, a treasure hunt in Grassington, a wine tasting evening, walks in Darwen (Sunnyhurst wood) and Leyland, a wild west evening, a proms evening with Katherine Jenkins and a games afternoon. We also raise money for lots of charities and most recently raised money through the Morecambe Bay walk for Galloways. Many holidays are organised at the club and our current holidays include 15 of us going to Littlecote House and a full coach of us going to Torquay where we will take over the whole hotel! These can be booked at the pub night or by post/email. For all details relating to the club please contact Christine Snape on 01200-422361 or 07896877690 or email:

At first when the wife left, I was upset and lonely, but since then I`ve bought a dog, had two different women and blown a grand on booze and fags. She’ll go Mad when she gets home from work.
