had its beginnings in a ga- rage. “My father-in-law, Henry Brandt, started his own busi- ness in Chicago after selling his corporation,” says Pugh. Brandt liquidated bank-incen- tive leftovers from promotions. “That led him into the whole- sale business, where he met some merchandise brokers in the Chicago area,” Pugh says. “On a subsequent trip to Branson, MO, he fell in love with the area and moved his business there.” The company evolved into one of the leading Hallmark closeout dealers in the U.S. in the 70s and early 80s, and found its niche in the gift industry.
