QUALICUM BEACH AND THE QUALICUM BAY RESORT An enchanted place to be with your RV on

Vancouver Island by Randle H. Fox

Qualicum Beach received its name from the aboriginal peoples—which means chum salmon, which were bountiful in the nearby rivers. It is a quaint, upscale town easily located less than an hour from Nanaimo and about two hours from Victoria, British Columbia. With its paved seawall it is a great location to either park and gaze at the beautiful ocean views from the comfort of your RV, or to leisurely stroll along as the tide recedes. This ocean walk reveals a beautiful stretch of glistening sand sparkling in the high summer sun and is covered with a variety of natural treasures just waiting for the beachcomber in all of us. With no chain outlets in the area, the local stores in Qualicum Beach are small and with plenty of variety for all. This is most definitely one of the best places to see and be seen up-island.

Qualicum Bay Resort

Located a short distance away is the always sparkling clean and quiet Qualicum Bay Resort that, with it’s beautiful and varied West Coast landscapes, offers serene privacy beneath highly-fragrant cedars and fir trees, and bright and airy spots alongside serene sparkling ponds for your RV. The resort is protected from traffic noise by a tract of private land bordering the resort.

Qualicum Bay Resort is equipped to meet all needs and offers a wealth of services for the discriminating tastes of the RV’er, including well-maintained RV sites, camp sites, motel, cabins, a place to stock-up with groceries and the highly-recommended Henry’s Kitchen—offering up reasonably priced fine Chinese and Western cuisine.

The restaurant is located right at the Qualicum Bay Resort. The ConeZone serves 32 flavours and dishes up the biggest hand-scooped ice-cream cones on Vancouver Island.

Pat Stahl from the resort says, “Why do RV’er’s keep coming back? Quite simply, they enjoy what we have here. This year, for the kids, we have a brand spanking new water slide in addition to the man-made swimming pond.”

There is no need to really rough it— Qualicum Bay Resort provides clean, well-maintained restrooms with hot showers. Laundry facilities are also available at the resort. All are serviced on a daily-basis keeping it sparkling clean.

“The resort has gained quite a reputation with the RV’er,” Stahl says. “There’s ocean views from many of the lots and we have cabins with ocean views as well.” She highly recommends RV’er’s book ahead, especially the long weekends, “People generally reserve— often after staying here they reserve for the following year or multiple years!” The resort is a favourite among several different clubs, groups and associations who sometimes book the entire resort for corporate or company get-aways.

At the Qualicum Bay Resort, they virtually offer everything you need to make your holiday on BC’s West coast a memorable one.
