RV TRAVEL – SOUTH OF THE BORDER
As one of the leading companies operating RV tours to and through Mexico, we are asked quite often about the safety of traveling in these areas. I am pleased to report that our tours have traveled safely and without incident or harm, and that the likelihood of being harmed or becoming involved in a gang or drug related incident is very small. People have fear – that is understandable. However, the fear that most people have is based on reports of the dangers and incidents – all of which are not in the areas that any tour company would travel or send their clients. The only people that are being endangered are those that are involved in gang and illegal activities, those who are fighting the crime or the innocent bystanders who are in the areas of these activities.
The reason we are still operating tours for those who want to travel to Mexico is because we feel comfortable. We do not take risks or endanger our groups regardless of where we travel. We do not travel where there is danger. The media and officials have warned not to cross in border towns and that travel to Mexico should be via Airline or Cruise Ship. As RVers we need to pass through these border towns to get to the destinations we plan to enjoy …these wonderful areas found in this beautiful country. Rest assured, we don’t travel through gang territories, dangerous neighborhoods or zones that have a risk of incident – but rather around these areas to avoid such incident.
The authorities and governing agencies state that tourists are not the target of these violent and criminal activities, but only state this after they have advised against all travel by vehicle through these areas. The agencies that state the hazards of traveling in Mexico make specific claim to the border towns and illegal activities that have been the basis of all dangers – including murder

– which travelers would be subject to. They strongly advise against traveling alone, avoiding dangerous areas within cities known for their criminal activity and to NOT travel at night. These have always been our minimum standard of operation for tour groups – regardless of country.
Many of our seasoned travelers have come to realize through experiences of their own that much of the media coverage is sensationalized – creating more fear than serving their commitment to news. Yes, people have been killed, kidnapped and victim to theft – keep in mind that this happens worldwide, including within the United States and Canada. The majority of the activities we are hearing so much about is isolated demographically – yet many have associated the crimes to an entire country. Keep in mind that every country has dangerous areas, every state has dangerous cities, every city has dangerous neighborhoods – and we still visit these countries, states and even cities across the United States. Many of the dangerous neighborhoods in the United States are as (or more) violent than the entire country of Mexico. I have recently heard that if you were to tally all US and Canadian tourists that will visit the United Kingdom in one year,

that number will still be smaller than the number of US and Canadian tourists that will visit Mexico on any given day… even after all of this news of violent activity. However, Mexico’s primary industry is tourism and the reduced flow of vacation travelers has significantly impacted the country’s economy which has led to less funds available to fight the criminals. In short, by not visiting Mexico we are helping the growth and strength of the gangs and drug cartels… which eventually will lead to greater criminal activity and make our favorite destinations unsafe. Visit Mexico, travel in groups and take precautions’ wherever you travel.
To help assure our guests when we travel to Mexico we convoy through borders and border towns because there is safety in numbers; arrange escort services from the Green Angels – a new service they are providing to help keep tourists together as they travel to destinations by vehicle and register our caravan and route with the tourism authorities. We have operated guided RV tours to and through Mexico since 1995.
