Newport City Council’s helping hand for businesses

Awards set to be biggest yet

There will be new categories, new sponsors and a new location for 10th annual Caerphilly Business Forum Awards, making them the biggest yet, says chairman Andrew Diplock (pictured). He was speaking at the at the awards’ launch,

sponsored by Norgine, at Llancaiach Fawr manor, near Nelson. The awards themselves will be held at the manor house on November 11th, with a marquee in the courtyard extending the capacity of the venue to accommodate up to 250 guests – 60 more than last year. Eight award categories are open to businesses

this year including two new ones; a Finalist Achievement award and a Women in Business award. The Finalist Achievement award is open to all past finalists and is designed to highlight the success of businesses in Caerphilly Business Forum over the 10 years the awards have been running. It will be awarded to the business which has achieved the most since winning the award. The Women in Business award, sponsored

by Glenside, will be given to someone who has motivated and encouraged other women to recognise their achievements. The judges will be looking at all sorts of achievements, such as overcoming financial constraints, social disadvantages or skills gaps. Around 70 people attended the breakfast time

launch and they heard Andrew Diplock outline the growth of the awards and CBF over the last 10 years, the changes planned for the 2011 awards and the benefits of entering the awards. “Ten years ago members of the forum sat

down and discussed whether or not there was the hunger for annual business awards in

Caerphilly County Borough and whether they’d be sustainable,” he said. “Ten years on, the answer is a resounding

‘Yes’. This year, our 10th annual awards will be the biggest yet and to help us celebrate the achievements over the last 10 years we have introduced a ‘Finalist Achievement Award’ for which we’ll be inviting all the finalists of the last 10 years to tell us about their development. The awards are open to forum members based

in the county borough. The other categories are: The High Growth Business Award, sponsored by Direct Healthcare, which is aimed at newer businesses and is open to those with a turnover up to £80,000; The Business of the Year with up to 25 employees will be awarded to a business which has demonstrated outstanding and consistent achievement, or shows the greatest promise for the future. It is sponsored by Caerphilly County Borough Council; The Business of the Year with more than 25 employees has similar criteria but is aimed at larger businesses and is sponsored by Seda Packaging; The Environment Award, sponsored by UES, will be awarded to a business that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the reduction of its environmental impact and its energy use; The Young Achiever Award is open to owners, directors, managers and employees of private businesses who are up to 35 years old. It will be awarded to the person who has made an outstanding contribution to the overall success of a business or to particular aspects of it. Individuals may enter on their own behalf or be nominated by another person. The category is sponsored by PHS Group.
