Go figure

Tell us a bit about you and your business... Gocompare.com is a price comparison website that was launched in November 2006. We enable consumers in the UK to shop around for car, home, van, motorcycle, travel and pet insurance, breakdown cover, energy and many other financial products. Gocompare.com was the first comparison

site to focus on displaying the product features of an insurance policy, rather than just listing prices. We currently employ 96 people at our office based in Newport.

When and why did you take the plunge and set up on your own? I’d spent many happy years at Admiral Group, in Cardiff, where I had the opportunity to

work with some great people on some very exciting projects. I was part of the team which launched Confused.com and my role at the time was to convince insurers that price comparison sites were the future – which was easier said than done at the time! After a while I became dissatisfied with the direction that the comparison industry was going, so I decided to take action, and the result was Gocompare.com With the help of two other people I’d

managed to convince to help me, we launched Gocompare.com from my kitchen table in 2006. I still can’t believe that we’ve gone from a bunch of people sitting in my house to a company that employs almost 100 people in just four and a half years.

The Business Quarter catches up with Gwent success story Hayley Parsons, the woman behind price comparison website Go Compare, to find out what makes her tick...

Did you know it was going to be so successful? I hoped it would! You can never guarantee how things will turn out, but business is about taking considered risks, making mistakes (and learning from them), and working bloody hard. I never take anything for granted and everyone at Gocompare.com works hard to make sure we continue to provide the best service possible for our customers. You can’t rest on your laurels in an industry that’s as competitive as ours.

Have you ever regretted your decision? Not for one second. Life’s too short for regrets, if something goes wrong just put it down as a lesson, learn from it and try something else.
