news MP praises Tata investment
The MP for Blaenau Gwent, Nick Smith, has congratulated Tata Steel on its continued investment in the area. On a visit to the Ebbw Vale
Innovation Centre, built and run by Tata subsidiary UK Steel Enterprise, Mr Smith praised the development, saying it was an important development in the new economic life of the town and surrounding area.
“Well done to Tata for the long
term investment in the area,” he said.
“This is a very impressive
business facility, which will help local people establish their businesses. “It is an excellent office
environment, which will enable people to present themselves well and allow them to grow. “ The second phase of EVIC
opened last year, following the success of the initial part of the project. It doubled in size bringing total investment to £7.1m in a building which will accommodate almost 400 jobs. Interest is high as new tenants
take up space. These are both local companies with plans to grow, and inward investment firms such as Warwick Audio. It is also home to Baytek, a hi-tech information and control company which recently completed a major project with
Tata Steel at their Port Talbot Works. Other residents include The
Flower Stork and Impact Wales Group. “The second phase is proving
very successful, even despite the challenging economic circumstances,” said Andy Morris, of UK Steel Enterprise. “We can eventually
accommodate 400 jobs, and already we have a sizeable business community on site and this is expanding all the time. Many residents are finding the presence of other companies can offer synergies in many ways.”
