How do you see the future? Loud, larger than life and with a curly moustache! Seriously though, I do think that the future for Gocompare.com is a very exciting one. We’re always looking at how we can expand our services to provide more value for our customers, so this is an important area for us. The growth of smart phones enabling people being to shop around on the hoof is also an area for us to look at. But the main thing I want to achieve in the future is to look after everyone

who works for Gocompare.com. I’m delighted that the people I work with have embraced the responsibility I have given them, repaying this by producing remarkable work day in and day out. I am adamant that this will continue, and no matter how much we grow, our culture will stay strong.

How much of the ‘comparison’ market does Gocompare have and how do you go about getting more? We are one of ‘the big four’ price comparison websites in the UK, and as far as insurance goes I’d say we’re the biggest in terms of quote volumes. There’s still plenty of room for growth in the market but getting a larger share of each customer is a bigger challenge. Effective cross-selling, working on customer retention and diversifying the products we offer will be key to this.

What advice would you give to anyone setting up a business like yours? The most important thing before taking the plunge is to

understand your worst case scenario. If you’re leaving a secure job to set up a business and it fails, the chances are you’ll have a strong enough background and CV to get another job. Once you’ve made the decision to do it, go for it and don’t look back. Anyone setting up a business should not underestimate the power

of

the internet. I heard something recently that nicely sums up how important the internet is to our daily lives now: we used to be told to think before we speak, now we google before we tweet. Most people start looking for products and services using a search engine now, and if you can’t be found online you could be missing a huge number of customers.
