just recently finished reading Delivering Happiness, the first book written by Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh (pronounced Shay). I was not familiar with Zappos but I had heard references from the book a few times over the past year. I soon learned that
Zappos.com has more than $1 billion in gross merchandise sales annually, while simultaneously making Fortune Magazine’s annual “Best Companies to Work For” list. What an amazing accomplishment for any business.

One of the core values that define the Zappos culture is about relationships and communication. Whether you’re a home builder, business partner, sales associate, sales manager or a customer, communication affects your relationship. It’s not always about what you say or do, just be effective, open and honest.

Associates Chris Hawke, ISC Building Materials and Gina Conklin, Houston Community compete at the May Associate Council meeting. Gina won!
We have had many builders attend our monthly Associate Council meetings over the years and we always hear the same thing. “Communication is key to being a good vendor.” Builders who survey vendors always recognize the best at communication. With today’s technology it is amazing to hear that there are communication issues. Could there be a problem with the relationship?
Summer months around the GHBA bring the AIA Sandcastle Competition, the 19th Annual New Home and Remodeling Show, the Mid-Year Forecast Luncheon, and we host the TAB summer meetings. Check the calendar at
www.ghba.org, “like” the GHBA Facebook page, or look in the back of this month’s magazine for more upcoming events.
Congratulations to the "Lunch with the Speaker" drawing winners. Pictured (l to r): Greg McDonald, BMC Building Materials; Sindee Cox, Highland Homes,; Susan Quave, Diversified Thermal; and Dave Walton, Trendmaker Homes.
