It’s hard to imagine where Guelph University would be without superstar Cam Harris. After winning double gold this summer (U23 World Championships with Team Canada and Canadian Ultimate Championships with Moondoggies), the rising GOAT star and native of Aurora, Ontario was almost unstoppable at CUUC. A strong supporting cast including GT young guns Josh Meron and Kyle Patrick (U20 Team Canada) as well as fellow captain Andy Kubinec of MuD allowed Guelph to grind out win after close win in one of the most competitive brackets in recent memory and find a way to come out on top. Humbled by their 2009 finals loss

to Carleton, the University of Western Ontario came into CUUC with some- thing to prove, but Ultimately came up short once again in a tough finals loss to Guelph. Captain Mark Lloyd (U23 Team Canada, GOAT, General Strike) played the tournament left-handed after break- ing his thumb at Easterns, but was still an effective striker able to pull down hucks from the likes of Myles Sinclair (U20 Team Canada) and Scotty Hislop (U23 Team Canada). Calum Mackenzie (GT) and Andrew “Higy” Higgins (Maverick) dev- astated opposing zones throughout the tournament, while Joe Norat and Lucas Stevens-Hall provided fire-up defense. The loss of handlers Andy Siy (Moondoggies) and Camilo Jimenez to injury on Saturday proved costly for the Sharks, however, who struggled at times with Sunday’s powerful crosswind. Ottawa’s Carleton University (win- ners of CUUC 2009 and CEUUC 2010) came into CUUC 2010 confident after more than a year of dominance in the Canadian university circuit, but their title

hopes were crushed with a semifinal loss to eventual champions Guelph. Captain Kielan Way (U23 Team Canada, Phoenix) was instrumental to the Ravens’ success throughout the tournament with his pre- cision flick hucks and strong leadership. A talented supporting squad including Ryan Bauer (Phoenix), Shaw Dungate, Jan Gorski (Phoenix), Jamie Craig (Phoenix), Bryce Ring (Phoenix), Rob Schmidt (U20 Team Canada, Phoenix), Reynaldo Arteaga (U23 Team Canada, Phoenix) and Joel Bellavance were rarely scored on without forcing at least one turn all weekend, but couldn’t hold their title. After a strong Sunday start for the

University of Toronto, edging out the University of Ottawa 14-6, Torontula fell to eventual finalists the University of Western Ontario in semifinal action, end- ing their hopes. Strong play from GOAT’s Adrian Yearwood was key to a 7-2 record in pool play. Big contributions in the air from young gun Mateusz Bocian and on the ground from Joachim Tingle and Jeff Morrissey (all from ROY), among others, pushed Torontula to an eventual 4th place

force this year and trying to improve on an impressive second-place CEUUC fin- ish. Rising superstar Tim Tsang (U20 Team Canada, Moondoggies) was dominant as the Redmen went a perfect 9-0 through the first two days of play. The loss of Tsang to injury in a universe-point win over UWO was a huge blow to McGill, who eventually fell short with a tough 10-4 loss to Carleton in quarterfinal action. Strong leadership from veterans Dave Tingle, Jeff Scanlon, Elias Epp and Tobias Froehlich helped them bounce back and win 5th spot over DKUT. CUUC 2009’s surprise dark horse DKUT, an amalgamation of the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University, entered CUUC 2010 as a legitimate con- tender. Strong performances in the wind and a well-deserved 9-6 upset of Carleton University in the power pools solidified their place as a team to beat. Captains John Snow and Jackson Byrne (GOAT) led a hard-working squad that included star playmaker Matt Hogel and a large contin- gent from Halifax club team Red Circus. DKUT kept every game close, never losing by more than 2 points, and finished 6th after three tight games on Sunday. Possibly the only team with a designated
