NAME: ALYONA KOULANOVA Home Town: Newmarket Team: Overdrive Position: O-line cutter Years Played: 4 Who is your most influential Ultimate

player and why? Without hesitation Carla DiFilippo is the first name in my head. Her focus and intensity at practice and games translate to consistency on the field. The time and effort she has committed to overdrive this summer allowed the team to grow beyond any expectations that I had at the beginning of the season. What does “Spirit of the Game” mean

to you?

Making honest calls on the field is what “spirit of the game” is all about. It is easy to get fired up and become callous in your calls to gain advantage but it takes a player with character to play the game fairly and justly. “Spirit of the game” promotes honesty and integrity not only to your teammates and opponents, but yourself as well.

What is your favourite Ultimate moment? My favourite Ultimate moment was the semi final game at nationals. The entire team was so focused and ready to play hard, it just felt right. It was “inspired Ultimate” as G master Wang would say. The Moondoggies supporting us on the sideline assisted in the inspiration, adding more fuel to the already scorching fire.

NAME: LAMBERT LUONG Home Town: Abbotsford Team: Vortex Position: O-Line Handler Years Played: 4 Who is your most influential Ultimate player and why?

My most influential Ultimate players are my teammates Keanen Grant and Ryan Kremsater. We’ve played so well together for 3 to 4 years and they always made me want to push myself every year. While they were on Team Canada this year, I wasn’t sure if I would still play Ultimate after high school but I thought to myself, “I can’t lose to these guys!!” So I decided to keep playing Ultimate and joined the BC East team.

What does “Spirit of the Game” mean to

you? “Spirit of the Game” is having a great time playing Ultimate with respect and sportsmanship. Even though we play with intensity, at the end of the day we can become friends and maybe play on the same team someday. What is your favourite Ultimate moment? Nationals 2009, Vortex made it to the semi-finals and had to play MOFO to meet Blackout in the finals. No one expected Vortex to defeat the first ranked team but we played our best game against them and the CUC 2009 junior finals consisted of both teams from BC!

NAME: CHERUB LUM Home Town: Vancouver Team: Mischief Position: D-line cutter Years Played: 3 Who is your most influential Ultimate player and why?

My most influential Ultimate player would be Hannah Epperson because she is amazing at Ultimate and she has only been playing for 3 years. Hannah always has a positive attitude coaching and playing. She is a pleasure to be around. If you could be coached by anyone who

would it be and why? I would be coached by Jon Hayduk because he has played at two world championships and ended up winning one. He has also coached the UBC women’s team and he has coached the provincial BC team. What does “Spirit of the Game” mean to

you? The “Spirit of the Game” is the respect from each player. It is what makes Ultimate fun and enjoyable for everyone. It is probably the most important element to the sport. Without it, the game of Ultimate would not work.
