rPET from APET? If you don’t know your rPET from your APET, or your OPP from your CPP, or even your OPA/PE from your PA/PE - don’t worry, help is at hand. For all those confused by the terminology used to describe flexible packaging films, National Flexible has produced an easy to understand programme of information about the most frequently used types of films along with their most common applications within the food industry. “At first we didn’t appreciate the scale of demand for this sort of information,” said Mark Thompson – National Flexible’s sales & marketing director. “It was only when we started discussing these details with our customers that we recognised the need for an ‘easy-read’ guide.” This has led to National Flexible developing a specialist training seminar tailored to the use of film packaging for food products and how films can extend shelf-life and improve presentation of the product on-shelf. National Flexible are offering the sessions free to companies wanting to improve their knowledge of both film technology and printing. Sainsbury’s migrates

to portable printing Sainsbury’s plans to have all stores using the latest Toshiba EP portable series for in-store price mark- down by 2012. With close to 900 stores across the UK, the daily ‘mark down’ process is a critical part of each store’s operation. This process needs to be completed quickly, producing accurate labels to clear the stock and reduce any potential wastage. The central stock control system will inform each store the products that are due to go out of date and how many products need to be reduced. These products will then be scanned using a hand held device and a ‘mark-down’ label will be produced on the Toshiba EP2 portable printer. Sainsbury’s has been using Toshiba portable printers

for price-mark down for over 12 years. Dean Holt, the principal solutions architect for channels, commented on the relationship: ”We chose Toshiba portable products as the best fit for our business.” For more information call 0870 890 7200 or visit www.toshibatec-eu.co.uk.

Major investment

for Korsnäs Korsnäs Gävle has built a new evaporation plant investing a total of SEK 570 M to enhance energy efficiency and cut emissions. The investments mean that oil consumption will decrease by nearly 50 percent and that carbon dioxide emissions will therefore fall by the same amount. The plant was inaugurated by Barbro Holmgren, the County Governor of Gävleborg and Christer Simrén, CEO of Korsnäs. Alongside the inaugural speeches was cake and a brass band who provided entertainment. The new plant has taken a number of years to plan and build, employing as many as 130 people. Tests of the plant have resulted in unanimously positive assessments. "This is an important investment for Korsnäs. It halves our carbon dioxide emissions and enhances the efficiency of our work," says Christer Simrén, CEO of Korsnäs. For more information call 0046 26 15 10 00 or visit www.korsnas.com/en.
