product innovations LIGHT AS A FEATHER
M&H has produced two new lightweight jars which have the appearance of a thick wall jar but at a much reduced weight and a better value proposition. They are manufactured from Homo PP and use up to 50% less plastic in production, resulting in both cost savings and environmental benefits. The jars are a straight- sided contemporary shape and available in 50ml (ref. 8408) and 100ml (ref. 8409) with wadded and bore seal lids. M&H is mindful of the need to reduce packaging weight but at the same time it is vital that the resulting pack is robust and fit for purpose. This is achieved by producing new tooling to ensure an even distribution of material throughout the container to maintain overall strength and stability. M&H has an extensive range of over 180 standard jars ranging from 2ml to 1400ml manufactured in PET, SAN, PE and PP. EcoCert approval is available for the majority of the range. Laser marking small linear barcodes
Although 2D code formats like Data Matrix and QR Code are gaining in popularity, linear barcodes are still widely used because of the large installed base of handheld barcode readers and their corresponding inventory and database programs. The primary issue seen when marking linear codes though is lack of space on small parts - this is where laser marking can give you excellent results. In the example shown below, the linear barcode and human-readable text were laser marked with a Synrad laser in only 0.27 seconds using 10 watts of power at a speed of 58 inches per second on a label 5mm x 16mm in size. Even at this very small label size, the codes are easily to read. Laser Lines Ltd supplies the full range of Synrad lasers and marking heads to the UK market and can offer expert advice on this application. For more information call 01295 672500 or email
