Even Bigger And Better. The Team are now busy organising the 2011 show and as events are confirmed they will be posted on the website:


www.greatharwoodshow.co.uk So far this years event should be bigger and better still and considering the massive success of the last two shows at the new Showground the 2011 SHOW on Spring Bank Holiday Monday 30th May is the place to be. Last year the local charities who benefited from the Companion Dog Show were: £122.75 donated to the Lancashire Air Ambulance, and £95.00 donated to Guide Dogs for the Blind. The local charities that will benefit from the Companion Dog Show for this year are Only Foals and Horses at Oswaldtwistle, and a local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association. Main Arena events confirmed so far will include: Hounds from the Holcombe Hunt. Spectators will be allowed into the ring to meet and handle the hounds. Blazing Saddles Stunt Riding Team. as seen on TV and a spectacular show of riding skills. Many of these are rescue horses trained to perform these stunts. Lancashire Police Dogs. The show is privileged to have this welcome addition to the main arena as the do not provide displays. This is a chance to see how they fight crime. The Lancashire Police Horse Display. A great chance to find out how they are named and what they are trained to do. Cuerden Birds of Prey flying and static displays. A chance to get up close and see these amazing creatures. Tug of War. This ever popular event is open to all - get up your own team - Pubs , Clubs, Individuals, etc. Get in touch with Steven Horrocks: 07877 874498 No need to know the rules, have a go, have a laugh, win a prize! Cases of beer or even “The King of Spades Perpetual Shield,” (to be held for one year) Last year the main arena witnessed a major upset as “The Top Lock Tuggers,” from Wheelton finally managed to end the reign of Harwood's own “Park Pullers,” from the Park Hotel, who finished as runners-up.


Pigging Out ! (Eating and Drinking) This year there will be a huge choice of meals and snacks on offer at the show, aiming for high quality and a wide variety, with as much as possible produced locally. If you are hungry enough, sample the hog roast or barbeque. To eat on the go, there are traditional breakfasts, bacon butties, black puddings, chips, hot roast meat sandwiches, hot dogs and beef burgers, and even ostrich burgers. Try a curry with rice, or go for locally produced cheeses, pies or sausages; there is a large range of home made preserves to enhance them. For those with a sweet tooth, there are pancakes and doughnuts, candy floss and fudge, ice cream, home made cakes and a luxurious chocolate fountain . To finish off, try a cup of freshly ground coffee or a refreshing cup of tea. Tradi t ional sarsaparilla and dandelion and burdock are available, as well as fresh fruit juices and soft drinks, or a cold glass of wine or lager.
