Buncombe County Local band supports local food Asheville-based acoustic Americana band Red

June announces its Homegrown Tour 2011 to fo- cus attention on local agriculture. To emphasize the message, Red June will donate $1 of each CD sale at live shows for the first half of 2011 to the Ap- palachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP). ASAP does critical work in the area expanding

local food markets, supporting farmers, and build- ing healthy communities through connections to local food and Red June is proud to support their mission. “Local agriculture provides fresh, healthy food

and strengthens local economies. With this cam- paign, we want to draw attention to small-scale farms that humanely raise their animals and use sustainable farming practices that are healthy for people and for our planet. No matter where you live it’s important to support your local farmers and we want to carry that message with us to our live shows in 2011,” said Natalya Weinstein of Red June. Weinstein is an instructor at Joyful Noise Com-

munity Music and Arts Center in Weaverville. Red June’s September 2010 release “Remember

Me Well” was voted No. 1 in WNCW’s Regional Top 20 Contest and #31 in the station’s Top 100 al- bums of 2010. “Remember Me Well” also debuted on the national Folk DJ charts at No. 4 album in November 2010. Red June will be performing with Dehlia Low

at the Madison County Arts Council at 7:30 pm on Jan. 29. Tickets are $15, with youth under 16 free with a paying adult. For more, go to madison- countyarts.com/. For more information about the band, go to red-

theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Duane Laflin and Company will be presenting a two-hour, family- friendly illusion show at the Carol Belk Teater at 7:30 pm on Friday (Jan. 21) on the campus of the Uni- versity of North Carolina-Asheville. Te illusionist is honoring the re-

lease of “Te Four-Foot Giant and the Vanishing Wheelchair,” the bi-

ography of magician, magic shop owner, and inspirational speaker, Ricky D. Boone. Boone’s shop is lo- cated in Woodfin. He battles a rare bone disease that prevented his body from fully developing. Combined with severe scoliosis, he has been wheelchair-bound for most of life. Boone has been performing mag-

ic and illusion for more than two decades. His story has appeared on

several national programs. His magic shows can range from

close-up (coins, cards, rings and more), stage/platform (linking rings, ropes, comedy and more) to illusions (escapes, floating ladies, a 6’ guillo- tine, and more). For more on the book, go to four-
