Joel Hathaway had the third meet- and-greet event for his students and parents on Tuesday (Jan. 18). Previ- ously in the school year he visited the Woodfin and Johnston areas for the same type of community out- reach. Te intent of the event is to give
Hathaway and some teachers from Erwin Middle School an opportu- nity to come into the communities to see parents who might not other- wise come to the school for an open house or teacher conference. Hath- away said that each of the events had drawn anywhere between 25- 50 people. Tis is Hathaway’s first year as
principal at Erwin Middle. He was the assistant principal at the middle school the previous four years. “I really love the diversity of the
Erwin community. It is a great school to work for,” he said. To en- courage the kids to come out and bring their parents, Hathaway was giving away an iPod in a drawing the next day. Te next “Meet the Principal”
event will be for the Emma com- munity March 15.
