Weaverville Volunteers needed for Relay For Life In a nation where more than
1,437,180 people will be diagnosed with cancer this year, Weaverville volunteers are invited to join with the American Cancer Society in our movement to end cancer. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event that unites over 5,100 communities across the country to celebrate cancer survi- vors, remember those lost and fight
back against a disease that takes too much. At Relay For Life, teams of fam-
ily members, friends, co-workers and others set up campsites with fundraising activities and take turns walking all night long. Te general public is encouraged to come out to the event to enjoy entertainment, food and games, touching ceremo- nies and stories of inspiration.
In 2010, the Relay For Life of
Weaverville raised $55,500 for the American Cancer Society and cel- ebrated eighty-eight local cancer survivors with the leadership of vol- unteer event chairs, Gerry Adkins and Heather Neal, their planning committee and the combined ef- forts of 25 fundraising teams.
