Meals

Meals are cooked on the premises. Menus are available from the school of- fice, and at least one vegetarian option, and a salad bar, is offered every day.

Money for school dinners must be brought on Mondays, in a named enve- lope. It will be collected from the classroom. Children may change between packed lunches or school dinners, however parents/carers are required to give half term’s notice of any such changes.

Families on Income Support may be eligible for Free School Meals. Parents/ carers can obtain a form at the Local Authority One Stop Shop and this must be submitted directly to the Local Authority.

Children having dinner at school or a packed lunch are looked after by the School Meals Supervisors (SMSAs) who are members of staff and supervise children during the lunch break.

Packed lunches are to be brought in a sealed plastic box, all lunch bags should be small. Glass bottles may not be used. The school encourages healthy packed lunches, to include a sandwich, pasta or rice salad, fresh or dried fruit, cereal bar, yoghurt and a drink. Sweets, chocolate and fizzy drinks must not be brought for lunch. Parents/carers are discouraged from packing crisps in lunch boxes.

Children may bring water to drink during the school day in a non-spill plastic bottle. There are three water fountains available for children on the play- grounds.

Secondary Transfer

Children in year 6 must complete a common application form for transfer to secondary school. This form is provided by the Local Authority, and also available electronically on-line. Parents/carers are encouraged to visit a range of local secondary schools, who offer open evenings early in the Autumn Term. It is important that the forms are returned according to Local Authority deadlines, as local secondary schools are frequently oversubscribed.

Extended Services

The school works closely with a number of external agencies and is able to signpost parents who are seeking additional support to a range of providers, e.g. housing, mental health concerns, children’s holiday schemes
