The School Code
The School Code was developed by pupils, staff, parents and governors and is displayed around the school. We expect all members of the school community to keep it.
We make sure we notice when children do the right thing, work hard and show a positive attitude and approach to school and learning. Rewards include Gold Stars (for excellent work or effort), house points (for day to day effort and achievement) and ACE Awards (Always and Consistently Excellent in attitude and approach to learning). Five Gold Stars earns a certificate to take home, and being mentioned three times in the Brilliant Book earns a letter home to parents/carers. The Head teacher sends Commendation Letters to parents/carers for pupils’ outstanding contributions. Year 6 children are appointed to special responsibility roles around the school.
However, when children continually do not keep school rules or do not work hard, they will be warned in school and may receive sanctions if there is no improvement. All children are aware of what constitutes unacceptable behaviour and sanctions include being sent to another class, missing break times, and letters of apology. There is a system of lunchtime detentions related to poor behaviour. Parents/carers are informed as soon as a child has received a detention.
Parents/carers are expected to support what we are doing in school. We will either write a letter or telephone parents/carers to make sure they are aware of any concerns with a child’s behaviour.
If poor behaviour escalates, we can no longer take responsibility for a child’s actions. In this case the child may be excluded, either for a set number of days or permanently. Records of exclusions are kept on the pupil’s individual files and by the Local Authority. Parents are responsible for supervising their child for the first five days of any exclusion after which a placement may be found at another setting.
