Section 10: Getting involved

Liverpool Students’ Union The Liverpool Students’ Union (LSU) is led by students for students to ensure that you get the most from your LJMU experience. The LSU is based in the Haigh Building, which is located in the Mount Pleasant Campus. It also has shops at IM Marsh and Byrom Street.

Giving students a voice that is heard by and acted upon by the University is central to all the work done by the LSU. Through its Better Union, Better City and Better University forums, the LSU regularly canvases students for opinions on issues impacting on their student experience. Effective student representation is the core value of LSU and you can play your part by attending the monthly forums, becoming a Course Rep, a Hall Rep or even standing for election as one of the Union’s elected student officers, also known as the President and Vice President Positions.

entertainment and opportunities. To find out more download a copy of the LSU guide from www.l-s-u.com or call into the main Students’ Union Building, The Haigh.

LSU is led by an elected student officer team made up of the President and three Vice President positions and supported by a Trustee Board made up of the elected student officers, three student trustees and three further community trustees. The Student Officers and trustees are elected by LJMU students each spring.

The President leads a team of three Vice Presidents who take responsibility for: Academic Quality, Activities and Community Engagement and all are based on the first floor of the Haigh Building. The main role of this team is to ensure that LJMU students get the best from their university experience, from the quality of your education to your experience in Halls and providing opportunities to meet new people and develop new skills.

For more information on the Student Officers and their priorities for 2010/11 go to: www.l-s-u.com/content/128505/elected_student_officers/

Listening and acting on your student voice

LSU is a campaigning organisation so if you want to change something make sure this is fed back to the Union. LSU has representation on all of the University’s decision-making committees, so students really can influence the way the University develops and operates. This involvement means that all matters of concern are given a voice in LJMU and that all students’ needs are addressed.

The Students’ Union maintains a network of active course reps, who cover all LJMU’s teaching buildings and bring issues affecting your academic experience to the attention of the University and Students’ Union.
