An analysis of the European tournament circuit showed that the number of competitions had more than doubled between 1998 and 2000 – from just 19 events to 43.


The total prize money on offer had also risen


sharply from €4.3 million to €11.8 million. At the time it seemed like a lot of money.


The European Rankings contained some familiar names. Marcel Luske of Holland was already making his mark and was number one in both the Hold’em and All Games lists with Micky Wernick, and France’s Fabrice Soulier and David Benyamine in the next three spots.


Another Dutch player Rob Hollink topped the Omaha rankings.

The winning bidder of Peter Eastgate’s 2008 WSOP Main Event bracelet on eBay has now been identifi ed as William Haughey.


According to Ekstrabladet.dk Haughey is a well-known Scottish philanthropist who has a background in poker and over the last fi ve years has donated over $50 million to charities, political campaigns and his local football club, Celtic. He boasts over $275,000 in tournament winnings including a win at an EPT side event in 2008.


Haughey picked up the bracelet for $147,500, which Eastgate donated to UNICEF, and apparently hopes to raise even more with it for a good cause.


WILL PHIL BE DANCING WITH THE STARS?


Rumours are abound that Phil Hellmuth Jnr will be taking part in America’s Dancing with the Stars.


Following his Ultimate Bet stablemate, Annie Duke, into the forays of mainstream reality TV he is set to appear on the next series of the show which attracts millions of viewers. His agent, Brian Balsbaugh, has hinted that Hellmuth will be seen on television a lot more in 2011 and that he has already signed the deal.


The dancing show takes amateurs from sports, music, and entertainment and pairs them with professional dancers. Each week, eliminations are held based on fan voting.
