There was a fl urry of activity in the Spanish poker scene at the
end of 2010. And perhaps it’s only fi tting that during the month of Saint Valentine, that Spanish Poker Pinup Girl Leo Margets should be the fi rst player that we mention.
The Catalan beauty took the title of ‘Spanish Poker Champion’ at the Full Tilt Poker Masters Series at the Gran Casino Costa Brava, as well as €100,000 in prize money and a specially commissioned ‘Masters’ ring.
Leo underlined her status as one of most exciting players on the Spanish scene with the victory, which saw her go heads up with the Cardplayer Italian editor and frequent player in Spain Massimiliano Luppi. The heads up was the
culmination of three days of play at the Casino, that had seen 32 of the country’s top players demonstrate their skills over four
disciplines - Deepstack, Shorthanded Shootout, Turbo and Heads-up. With this result under her belt, 2011 is already looking good for Leo.
Poker’s profi le had
another boost with the TV Programme “Full de Ases, Aprende con los Profesionales”, being broadcast on national TV station Telecino, which translates (badly) as “Full House of Ases (sic) Learn
with the Professionals”. Malaga player David Ruiz beat the other contestants for the right to take on The Hendon Mob’s Barny Boatman, but was unable to add to his €5,000
winnings by collecting a further €20,000 for beating the Englishman. David had qualifi ed for the fi nals

In the Spanish Poker Championship, sponsored by
Eurosuperpoker.com, Pedro Javier Piazuelo, better known in the
poker scene as “Pizu”, became the youngest ever overall champion. Only 22,
Pizu’s outstanding 2010 was capped with taking the title,
through Full Tilt Freerolls,
but admitted that he wasn’t used to playing live which added to his nerves when facing Barny. He said: “The majority of us haven’t played a lot of live poker and being on television made me even more nervous. I lost concentration when I played against Barny.”
though he was taking a nap in his hotel room after being knocked out of the fi nal event in Valladolid on the fi rst day. But Anna Sanchez, who was Pizu’s closest challenger, called him as soon as she went out on Day 2 and woke him up with the news that he was the new champion! “It was one of my best wake-up calls ever!” Pizu laughed!
