British Army General, founder of the Boy Scouts Movement in 1907. Scouting quickly spread to other nations, and Baden-Powell would retire from the Army in 1910, to devote himself to being the "Chief Scout of the World." His original book, "Scouting for Boys," is a combination of his philosophy of life and of his experiences in the Army, and contains many tips about living outdoors that he learned from native tribesmen. Although his book is heavily tailored on his wartime African experiences, Baden-Powell organized the Scouts to be scouts in peacetime, to learn those life skills that would enable teenagers to grow into worthwhile men and women and a credit to their society, no matter what their occupation would become.


Gene Sarazen, b. February 27, 1902 d. May 13, 1999 Professional Golfer. Gene Sarazen was the first professional golfer to win all four major championships. He was also known for his legendary "shot heard 'round the world" with his rare double-eagle in the 1935 Masters. Born Eugenio Saraceni, he was known as "The Squire" for his golf knickers and cap. Sarazen is also known as the inventor of the sand wedge.


Nina Simone, b. February 21, 1933 d. April 21, 2003 Jazz Singer/Vocalist. Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon, in Tryon, North Carolina.


Peter Leslie Osgood b. Feb. 20, 1947 d. Mar. 1, 2006 Football Star. Considered one of the greats in English football, he was a striker for Chelsea, Southampton & England in the 1970's. He led the Blues to a 2-1 victory over Leeds United in the 1970 FA Cup and a 2-1 victory over the Real Madrid Spanish Giants in the 1971 European Winners Cup final. He played for England in the 1970 World Cup. He died following a sudden heart attack while attending a family funeral, aged 59.

My Mum rang me on the mobile phone the other day. I always try to answer as it could be an emergency. She asked me what I was doing at the weekend.
