Olga’s 90th Olga Marton of Rishton

celebrated her 90th Birthday recently and told all her friends to donate to her

Help for Heroes Bucket Run rather than buying birthday presents.

A big thank you from Olga as £166 was raised and a

certificate is on it’s way from Help for Heroes.

CAG was set up in 2003 to provide a platform for the many voluntary groups in Great Harwood so that information could be shared and the Groups could be active by working closely with the Area Council in ensuring that the character of the town is conserved and enhanced. CAG meets in Bank Mill House on the third Thursday of every month at 7.00pm. All Great Harwood voluntary groups and residents are welcome to attend. Carol Singing in Great Harwood. A Great Turnout. Two opportunities to join in the festive carol singing during the lead up to Christmas, advertised in the December Local Herald, were well supported by the residents of Great Harwood. On the Sunday before Christmas on the Town Hall Square the traditional Carols Around the Tree, organised by the local Civic Society, were enjoyed by the best part of 100 people, young and old alike, even though the temperatures were below freezing and some of the Salvation Army band’s instruments froze on the night. On the following Tuesday, December 21st – the Winter Solstice, an interactive event with Radio Lancashire entitled “Lancashire Sings Christmas” and organised by the Churches Together was enjoyed by well over 50 residents in the Morrison’s store on Queen St. The staff and customers in the new store joined in the singing and this festive event was enjoyed by all. This interactive event also took place at the Dog and Otter public house on Cliffe Lane and the customers, both the regulars and the once-a-year-drinkers, made this a night to remember.
