If they can create it... We can test it

LI’s European Office has now been in operation for over 12 years. What have been amongst its most proudest achievements over those years?
Europe is an exciting gaming marketplace because of the diversity of gaming options from both within one jurisdiction and between jurisdictions. For example, it is common to see countries having a variety of gaming options they offer for play; Italy is a great example, as the country offers lotteries, AWPs (low pay out machines), VLT markets, four Casinos and online gaming. The interesting fact is the laws and regulations for each of these markets are constantly changing as new laws come on the books, as is the case with the VLT and online gaming markets, and the existing laws for the AWPs are updated from time to time to keep the market properly regulated. When you consider that this same process is happening in almost every jurisdiction around Europe, the challenge to service all of these customers becomes very clear. Over the past 12 years GLI Europe has been able to understand the challenges regulators face and present them with services that help address their needs and issues. GLI Europe is very proud of the customer service we have provided to regulators throughout all of their challenges the face in the variety of markets that they regulate. While some labs try to take a one-size-fits-all approach to testing and consultation, we believe that each approach must be tailored based on the desires of the jurisdictions parliament and regulators. Therefore, we are also very proud of the experience and individual attention we bring to each and every market in which we work in.
May 2011 sees another of GLI’s popular European Roundtable conferences in the beautiful City of Budapest. What are some of the leading technology issues up for discussion at the event?

Our Roundtable will be presented by GLI Europe and TST, A GLI Company. We have decided to co-sponsor this event because of the great interest we have seen, from regulators and policy markers alike, develop from a regulatory perspective on interactive gaming. In many ways, Europe is leading the world in terms of best practices for iGaming regulation. This includes all types of new gaming outlets such as online casinos, online table games, online games of skill, online horse racing and mobile gaming, to name a few. As these methods continue to spread, it is increasingly important that GLI and TST educate the policymakers and regulators on the key issues so they can ensure the markets are fair for all of the stakeholders involved. It is our view that one of the best ways to do this is through thorough testing and certification of the online gaming platforms, games, Random Number Generators and security policies of the operator. GLI Europe and TST also have decided to offer panels and discussions with a focus on policy and policy development that would be interesting to regulators. We hear feedback though out the year from many of the regulators that they are interested in knowing what is going on around Europe in adjacent markets. While some of the regulators can afford to travel and stay abreast of every development, not all regulators have the same budget for such activity. Therefore, we see this as a unique opportunity to have open and honest discussions as to the current state of affairs in jurisdictions around the Europe.
