Can you spot the difference?
If you’re wondering what we’re talking about you’re not alone! When Utopia Projects launched the AX-ES bathroom design concept at The Sleep Event this year it was so well received that most visitors didn’t even realise it was different from most of the ones they were looking at – it was a disabled bathroom. Says Ian Dutch of Utopia Projects, ‘They were attracted by the lines, colours and materials that we used to demonstrate the concept and loved the flexibility they would have in developing their own style…it was only later that they found out that this bathroom was actually suitable for everyone, disabled users included!’
Utopia Projects have worked with some of the world’s greatest manufacturers and Disability Discrimination Act experts to create this new aesthetically pleasing and highly functional concept. Disability aids discretely meld into the design or feature as stylish comfort extras so the bathroom no longer appears ‘different’.
And there’s another important difference too. At present around 5% of hotel bathrooms are only suitable for disabled users, usually compromising on style and guests’ satisfaction. AX-ES not only provides hoteliers with a highly marketable competitive advantage within the disability sector…it allows them to increase room occupancy and therefore profitability.
Says Ian, ‘The concept has been universally welcomed as there are such huge benefits for both disabled users and those at the business end. AX-ES is also fully flexible and suitable for all market positionings from entry level to top-end luxury. And we’re continuing to develop products and packages all the time for both disability requirements and projects.’
