HOTEL REVIEW

ABOVE: The Cowhsed Spa signifies the rawness of the property ABOVE RIGHT: Nick Jones was keen for the design to be based on the region with inspiration drawn from the history of Miami Beach and South America

of the restaurant is again Art Deco inspired

and features antique nile green striped floor tiles, matching upholstery, and a garden of Silver Buttonwood trees. The restaurant’s outdoor location presented Brudnizki with the challenge of making it work year-round. As such he installed a retractable awning, natural shading, and external air conditioning. The Cowshed Spa, a Soho House trademark, signifies the rawness of the property with its cowshed features of worn timber and rusting metal. It includes six spacious mani-pedi chairs, five treatment rooms, Cowshed’s first Blow Dry Bar, and a good-size ocean-facing gym – a must for Miami.

It is the guestrooms however where the eclectic style of the hotel comes into its own. “All rooms have an individual twist

with different furniture, colour schemes and patterns,” says Brudnizki. He goes on to explain that each has a standardised bathroom, but otherwise they are a mix of patterned concrete tiles, blue, green, or yellow walls, and one-off pieces of vintage furniture. In fact around 80% of the furniture throughout the hotel is vintage, sourced from antique dealers across the States. The South American influence is carried through each of the spaces in the hotel, from the Cuban coffee bar in the Drawing Room to the eighth floor Club Lounge, past the 100ft long pool to the secluded Tiki Bar surrounded by tropical gardens.

Although there are a few Soho House trademarks that link this property to others in the group, the real link is Jones. As Brudnizki puts it: “Nick is the DNA.”
