Staffordshire 10 Foreword by Major (Retd) James Welsh
Welfare Support Officer Army Welfare Service (West Midlands)
On behalf of the Garrison Commanders throughout Staffordshire, I am pleased to have this opportunity to welcome you and your family to this lovely area and hope you all have a happy stay. The two Garrisons covered by this guide are MOD Stafford and Whittington Barracks, Lichfield.
Staffordshire is a beautiful county set in the heart of England with excellent communication routes by rail and road to the North of England and to Birmingham and the South. Likewise the Staffordshire Peak District is only a short journey from both Stafford and Lichfield. A range of attractive towns and villages are all within easy reach and are also worth visiting. There are many worthwhile and interesting events happening throughout the year in Staffordshire, and these are usually advertised in the local news media.
I hope that this Service Community Official Guide will provide you and your family with much useful information. However, families are advised to check with the local HIVE Information Officer for up to date information.
The Army Welfare Service (AWS) is responsible for your welfare and the Defence Housing Executive (DHE) for your family’s accommodation needs. Both organisations are professional services and are there to help you and your family. Please use them when you or your family feels the need.
This Guide is produced in order that you should have an easy reference point, not only for the accommodation rules, but also to help you decide who you can SPEAK to when problems arise and when you need support.
I hope you enjoy your stay in Staffordshire. James Welsh
