14 Compassionate Leave
COMPASSIONATE LEAVE TRAVEL FROM OVERSEAS (For Service Personnel, their Dependants based abroad, Territorial Army and Mobilised Reservists)
If circumstances should arise whilst your relative is overseas (including N Ireland) either on a posting, at sea, or on deployment, that make it necessary for you to apply for his/her return on compassionate grounds (such as a death in the family, serious illness or serious family crisis) you should telephone:

This number is continually manned 24 hours a day including weekends and Bank Holidays
When you call you will be asked for the following information: Service Number, Rank, Name, home Unit and current location of the Service person, together with full details of the relative concerned, their location and name of Doctor, Hospital and/or any other organisation involved in the case. Please be aware that any information will be verified with the appropriate organisations before Compassionate Leave Travel may be recommended and authorised.
Although you may wish to contact your relative or his/her parent unit for advice or support, contact the JCCC directly, so that your case can be dealt without delay. Your relative’s unit cannot authorise Compassionate Travel, and therefore any information you pass to them will have to be forwarded to the JCCC which will waste valuable time in dealing with your request.

SSAFA – Forces Help Confidential Support Line (CSL)
In November 1997, SSAFA set up the CSL and since its launch, over 12,000 calls have been received from all over the world.
The CSL is open twelve hours a day from 1030-2230 hrs every day of the year including Christmas Day.
The CSL offers support throughout a personal crisis and provides a non-judgmental ‘safe’ environment in which to freely talk through concerns and issues. ‘No Names, No Comebacks’ is our slogan and total confidentiality is the key to our existence and success. Supportline staff are trained to listen, support and if necessary, can provide a range of options available. Whatever the issue or concern, we will listen. The service is available to all members of the Forces and their families.
