hurst received his Eagle Scout award Oct. 24. Broadhurst, a four-year member
of Troop 15, cleaned up and re- stored Weaverville Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in the area with tombstones dating back to 1795. Broadhurst led a team that
cleared brush and cleaned stones. He also began a database, entering the names and other relevant infor- mation about the 375 people buried there. He wanted to thank everyone
who had helped him along the way to earning the prestigious honor. Broadhurst is a freshman at
North Buncombe High School and a member of the junior varsity foot- ball team.
‘Inherit the Wind’ screening A screening of the 1960 classic film “Inherit the Wind” will begin at 7
pm on Tuesday (Nov. 9) at the Weaverville Library with commentary by local film historian Bill Brittain. Te film is based on the historic Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925 in Day-
ton, Tenn., in which Clarence Darrow and William Henry Bryan squared off in a court of law over Darwinism in the classroom. With powerful performances by Spencer Tracy, Frederic March and
Gene Kelly as well as the masterful direction of Stanley Kramer, the film was nominated for four Academy Awards. Free popcorn will be served and a short discussion will follow. Te
