Adrienne Jones installs a car seat Friday (Oct. 29) at Walmart in Weaverville.
By Matt Tate Twenty-three regional emer-
gency personnel workers, including several from the Weaverville Fire Department, recently earned child safety training through an agree- ment with SafeKids USA, Mission Hospitals and the Weaverville Fire
Department. Vickie Whitlatch taught the class
sponsored by Mission and hosted by the fire department. She said 98 percent of all car seats are not installed properly, so the four-day course taught occupancy protec- tion and installation guidelines as well as provided the emergency
personnel in attendance the ability to educate parents and caregivers in the importance of child safety. Employees from the Asheville
Fire Department, McDowell EMS, Riceville Fire Department, Jackson County Health Department and Chatham County Health Depart- ment also attended.
