the board also serves as an appeals board for employees. Injuries and attrition have affected
this year’s team. Injuries have held out four or five players, and Metts said others decided to go in a different direction. Twenty-one players dressed for the 34-8 loss to Asheville on Fri- day (Oct. 29), according to Metts, after starting the season with a roster around 40. “It’s been a rough year, and losing
tends to do it,” he said. On the field, the coach praised
the players’ effort against the playoff- bound Cougars. He said he was very pleased by the comments by Asheville coaches after the game that recog- nized the BlackHawks’ determined play.
Te running game sputtered aside
from Dylan Shetley’s 66-yard touch- down run in the fourth quarter, but Metts said the team employed sev- eral successful packages against the speedy and physical Cougars, includ- ing a trick punt that gave North Bun- combe the ball inside the Asheville 10 but they were unable to capitalize. “We did some things that were
fun,” Metts said. Reynolds will look to finish the
conference slate unscathed at North Buncombe (2-8) on Friday. Metts said the Rockets are not deceptive in their schemes, but they have great athletes at their skill positions that are able to execute their plans. He expects the BlackHawks to fin-
ish up this season with another solid effort. “We’re going to try to end the sea- son on a positive note,” he said.
