Leicester Community wins several awards


The Leicester community won several awards at the Buncombe County Community Development annual awards program, including Leicester resident George Mears being named the Buncombe County Man of the Year. The awards ceremony took place Oct. 28 and is sponsored by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension. There are 13 Buncombe county communities who competed. Leicester came away with $725 in prize money. Placement as follows: First in beautification ($200); Second in overall youth ($175); Honorable mention on scrapbook ($50); Second overall in Division C ($300).
