STEPPING INTO

YOUR FINANCIAL SHOES?

by Michael Creasman, CFP

While it is

scary for most of us to contemplate being too ill or in- jured to manage our own financial

affairs, the possibility certainly exists. With this in mind, some people set up a “living trust,” into which you transfer title of your assets during your lifetime. While you control the assets until you die, the assets pass directly to the ben- eficiaries named in the trust document upon your death. Tis helps bypass the potentially lengthy process of probate. You can serve as trustee of your living trust, but a successor trustee must be named who can take your place in the event that you were to become inca- pable of managing your money during your lifetime.

P.S. With a “durable power of at-

torney,” your successor trustee will be authorized to transfer to your trust any income or assets that you receive during your incapacity.

No one likes to talk about illness or

death. However, planning in advance can spare both you and your loved ones from having to make difficult decisions at a time of emotional confusion. At CREASMAN 401(k) PLAN ADVI- SOR, INC., we remind readers that good estate planning makes for good living. An estate plan can cut taxes, administrative costs, and red tape and ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes. In addition to estate planning, we also offer retirement planning and financial planning. Please call us at 828-253-7231 to schedule a consultation. We are fee-based financial planners who specialize in providing complete financial services to middle- income individuals and families.
