45 STAGE SYSTEMS OFFER ANOTHER OPTION FOR COVERING A POOL

There are no hydraulic systems involved. Stage Systems provide a stainless steel design which fits within the pool area. Each framework is bespoke to the size and shape of the pool and adjustable legs ensure the levels are exact when it comes to putting the finishing touches. The surface for the pool cover comes in the form of timber deck panels with a number of options in terms of finishes for the pool owner.

One of the most intriguing options for covering over a swimming pool is offered by Stage Systems Ltd who provide a stainless steel framework built in the pool which instantly gives another option to pool owners. Pool-dek specialist Ru Baker at Stage Systems says: “Typically this system is half the price of a traditional moving floor and the wooden finish complements existing decor.”

bulkheads since 1965 and have carried out more than 850 installations worldwide. During the initial years, moving floors were operated oil- hydraulically. Despite using synthetic oils, it was not always possible to avoid problems caused by leaks but now systems are feats of engineering skill and design, mostly made from stainless steel. The KBE moving floor product is available in the UK market through Suntrap Systems Ltd in Birmingham.

“The market is an interesting one,” said Janet Cornthwaite, Managing Director of Suntrap Systems. “The systems are very much in demand now amongst residential pool owners who see just how flexible they are and how they can completely change a home. They have an

“It is literally a flat pack system,” says Ru Baker. “It is enormously popular for pool owners who want another option whether it is for a party, a wedding or any special event. The market ideally suits the private residential indoor pool market more than anything else but it is such a versatile system. The finished cover is of the highest quality and the structure underneath the floor is solid and reliable.

“The beauty of the system is that it is very much for a special event and offers the pool owner a temporary transformation in the use of the space. It is a system which is becoming

impeccable reputation for the quality and reliabililty of all their equipment.” Variopool based in Heerhugowaard in the Netherlands installed its first moving floor in England over 25 years ago and Britain is an expanding market for the company – boosted by investment in new sports facilities in the build up to 2012.

The message from Variopool is one not just of versatility but of cost savings as a floor can be a super efficient pool cover.

Variopool floors comply to the specifications as set out by local authorities, the latest European Norms EN13451-11 (British Standards BS13451- 11) as well as FINA regulations for all Olympic and competition swimming events.

One of the specific trademarks of a Variopool movable floor is its floating system which was introduced and patented in Holland in 1968. This concept allows a buoyant floor to be pulled down hydraulically to its desired depth via a cable and pulley system located under the floor. This allows for greater flexibility, maximum safety and a 20+ year lifespan.

Maintenance is kept simple says the company as all the hydraulics and electrical components are located outside the pool tank. Service visits need only be done once a year and are performed by a certified Variopool engineer together with a team of certified scuba divers. increasingly popular. Pools aren’t used all the time and when a special occasion comes along, then it provides the option for something different.”
